For three misfit freshmen, the first day of high school becomes a living hell when Filkins (Alex Frost), the school bully, zeroes in on them. Chubby Ryan (Troy Gentile), diminutive Emmit (David Dorfman) and skinny Wade (Nate Hartley) all feel the wrath of Filkins. Realizing that their own chance for survival is to hire a bodyguard, the pals place an ad in the newspaper. At a time of year when movies regularly offend and demoralize their audiences, the only approach that critics can sometimes take to preserve their sanity is to move on quickly and avoid getting angry at how awful they are. Personally, I've reached a point where if I can escape a bad movie without blowing my stack, I consider myself lucky (and critically speaking, so probably should the filmmakers). Drillbit Taylor is a film that falls firmly into this nebulous zone of forgettability -- a piece of entertainment admittedly not engineered for folks like yours truly, but which will not antagonize older audience members while their younger counterparts chuckle gamely at its sophomoric charms.
