In 2020, the price level of alcoholic beverages (spirits, wine and beer) in Hungary was the lowest among EU member states, according to data released by the statistical agency Eurostat.
The price of alcoholic beverages varied widely across the European Union, the agency notes. Price levels were more than two and a half times higher in the most expensive Member State (Finland) compared to Hungary.
Compared to the EU average price level index of 100, the data shows that the price level index for spirits, wine and beer only reached 73 in Hungary. The second lowest price level was recorded in Romania (74), followed by Bulgaria (81).
At the other end of the spectrum, the price level index stood at 193 in Finland. The second most expensive country in terms of alcohol prices was Ireland (181), followed by Sweden (166).
